Inkigayo and Friends

Most of us non-Korean Kpop fans get to see our favorite groups online thanks to shows like M! Countdown or Inkigayo and whenever we have the oportunity to visit Korea we want to go on these shows, well, this is my OUR Inkigayo story....

Over 5 weeks ago 2NE1 released their single 그리워해요 aka "Missing you", usually when an artist release a single (In Korea) they go to these shows to promote, getting the chance to go to the pre-recordings isn't always easy and sometimes the information is only available in Korean, for those of us who still can't speak Korean this is a pretty huge inconvinient, but sometimes we find pretty cool people willing to help; I usually do my K-pop searches on twitter, that's where people talk about what's going on, some fans like to keep the info to themselves, while some others have no problems sharing or even helping you get on these shows, and that's how we (Diana & Me) met Audrey, she let us know the process to assist to 2NE1's first Inkigayo and that sunday we met her, you'll see, the athmosphere can be quite different depending on the artist you are seeing, my 1st Inkigayo ever was to see G-Dragon & CL for R.O.D, that was CRAZY, we had to be there at 7am and there were about 400 fans waiting to get in, it can be pretty scary if you are not an official VIP since you really don't know if you'll make it inside the studio, but, anyway, for 2NE1 is not as crazy but still you have to put some efford to get it.

The recording is pretty much the way you see it on TV (or online), you go in and the group comes out, usually they do the song 4 times (Can be more, can be just 2), the only difference is, you have the cameras moving around, you can see where the "snow" is coming from and sometimes (only sometimes!) you get to watch someone falling off (lol), if you are part of the Official club, you get goodies, like a "ticket", a lil brochure-like thing, stickers, a banner (Those long things with the name of the song, band, picture, etc) and whatever the official members have to give, as a non-member (aka US!!!!), well, you get nothing, unless, there aren't many fans, sometimes you get stickers or...ahmm...left overs.... you usually also get a printed version of the lyrics with some words highlited that you are supposed to yell when the recording is on, but for "Missing You" we didn't have any since we were asked to be quiet due to the nature of the song.

2NE1 had 5 (!!!!!) recordings for Inkigayo and 2 for M! Countdown, we managed to go to most of them (Yay!!), not only were we excited about the recordings, we were also excited about the people there, during those 5 weeks we made friends, got to know eachother better and just had fun while waiting to go in, in the process we also met Sally, a vietnamese girl studying Korean who always has snacks on her bag!, we would joke around, have coffee while talking on and on about whatever is going on on Kpop or just freeze together while being on the line waiting and for 2NE1, we all got the chance to send them a message on a post-it, every week we would get 1 post it to write them a message, it was only until week #2 that I was told each week there was a "theme" for the post it lol, so, by week #2 I followed whatever theme it was requested like "What song reminds you of christmas" or, "How do you bear the winter cold", today I got 2 post-its (probably because it was the last recording of this promotion) but I couldn't think of what to say an only used 1 :(.
Stickers!!
I have to say it was AWESOME seeing 2NE1 so many times and it was even better to make new friends, I can't wait until they have a new song to promote and meet the girls every week (again!!)
